What a great blog! I thought I was doing good with an iPhone & Facebook account. Bless you for being “you” and sharing your wonderful ideas with the rest of us. I’ve loved following you since I bought you first book! God bless you!

    • Nancy Jumper says:

      Hi Susan!
Loved the Nancy story. What a special lady she was. Like you! I also loved “Midnight in Paris”. Weren’t Marian’s clothes wonderful? Wondered if they were real vintage.

    • Jill Biatek says:

I made my cousin very happy on her 77th birthday yesterday! I made the Lemon coconut cake, served it on my Great Grandmother’s (her g’ma’s) King’s Crown, ruby flashed pedestal cake plate~invoked memories of other cakes on it before my time….. I added a few freshly picked sweet peas from my garden. I put a picture on my FB and FOSB …… Love this new “blog” Deb

I love your blog and was brought to it by clicking on a vintage apron pattern but it doesn’t take me to the apron!!! I am thrilled I found your blog, but I would really like the vintage apron pattern that everyone says is FREE…..but I can’t find it!! It’s the 5 panel one-each panel is like an hour glass shape….can anyone help me here?

    • sbranch says:

Yes, we still have that apron pattern…just click on Shopping; then, in menu on left, click on “Love to Sew;” Look for “Patterns and Quilt Design,” click there, scroll down, you’ll see Free Patterns, click on the Scalloped Apron. Yay!

  7. Christine Bedder says:

    Hi Susan,
Is there a link to your Pancake story? I just adore that story!
    Thanks! Christine

  8. Janet Hundley says:

    Dear Susan,
I love the blog. No surprise, though, since you put such love and joy into your “work” that it has been my pleasure to follow you all these years. Your art is a ray of sunshine on my computer as well as my bookshelf, my stationery drawer, my craft area, etc.
I have a question about the Finnan Haddie recipe. What is a corn toasty?
    Many thanks,
    Janet

    • sbranch says:

We have them in our supermarket in the bread section near the English muffins…they’re like very very thin corn bread that you can put in the toaster. They’re round. Hope you can find them!

  9. Kristina says:

I’m sure it’s here and I just don’t see it right in front of me, but I read about a DRAWING in the latest Willard, and I’d like to enter, but I don’t see on the blog where to do that. Help…please! 🙂

  10. DeAnna Passmore says:

    Susan & Girls!

You are wonderful! I’ve been going through a hard time lately (oldest daughter going away to college 🙁 and have needed a “safe place”…Willard is it along with your website/blog! Thank you for making me feel better a little at a time!

    • janet says:

Dee Anna – just wondering how you’re doing with your daughter away at college. It was a transition when my 5 each went away – I just cleaned out my youngest son’s closet after he married last year – it IS hard. I love how Susan LOVES her life and I have been inspired to treasure people and things dear to me, but also pursue things that bring ME joy! I’ve learned new things and met so many new friends in quilting classes, and study groups! Keep going Dee Anna – so much goodness is just ahead! – janet

  11. K. F. Ross says:

  15. Anne says:

I booked a week long trip to Martha’s Vineyard in 1988. The week before that we toured Boston and stayed a few days in Chatham at the Chatham Bars Inn – lovely! On the way from Boston to Woodshole my ex husband had a stroke (it was mild – he was only 40! – I think he ate too much fish at Legal Seafood ;-)) and we had to spend the next ten days in Falmouth at the Village Green Inn and he a few days in the hospital. Medical orders were that we were not to travel back home to Texas. I had booked 4 different B&B’s on the island and lost the deposits for all! (It was June) Against docs orders, one day I got us on the ferry and we were able to tour the island for about 6 hours. That was it! So I just got a taste of it and loved every single second. I live vicariously through your newsletters and stories. Susan, you take me to another world, another time. Just love your newletters, etc. Thank you for making the world a much lovelier place and “taking me” to the Vineyard that pretty much eluded me.

  16. Christine Auwae says:

Thank you for the story of Nancy Luce in “Willard”!! Very inspirational 🙂

  17. Debbie Ferguson says:

My heart stands one with all of the other comments, they say what my heart says a little better than I can. Susan I wish I could “Forward” your blogs to my friends, is that possible?

    • sbranch says:

Thank you! I think the only thing you could do would be to put my web site address into an email you would send them…they could click on it, and be here!

  18. Amy says:

    Susan,

Just got the August issue of “Where Women Create” (after checking almost every day this week to see if it was available yet). Of course I had to read the article right away because I couldn’t wait–and loved it. Really loved the card you made while writing your first book to remind you about real life. I will definitely be jotting some of those tips down and placing it where I see them often. I will read the article again and savor it–in fact the whole issue looks interesting. Can’t wait for the new book!! Thanks for sharing and being such an inspiration!!

  19. Tracy Roketta says:

Susan, I love your Cheesecake recipe (Heart of the Home, 1986) and I wondered if you had ever adapted it so that it had more of a lemon taste? I’m looking for a simple recipe for Lemon Cheesecake and while I’ve found some good ones, I wondered if this wouldn’t be a simple way to go?

    • sbranch says:

This is how new recipes are born! Just put a teaspoon of lemon zest in the filling and one in the topping and that should do it!

  20. Mary Smith says:

    Hi Susan,
I love your blog, especially today’s. I love old quilts and have 30some. I have them hanging on doors, on top of my hutch, on quilt racks and of course on all the beds. I also piece and make my own quilts. A lot of the ones I have are old from family. I love everything that you love, quilts, dishes, cookbooks, housekeeping, cooking, etc. I garden and freeze and can everything. I am so into your dishes and all your books and calendars. I have to have a new susan
branch calendar every year. I have been a fan of yours for years and love all your art. It is so inspiring. Keep up the good work.

    Mary

Just want you to know that every time I see your cute little face with your Princess Leia hair, it warms my heart and puts a smile on my face! LOL!

  23. Karen Lotito says:

I loved your story about Nancy Luce. Her strength and perseverance is to be admired. I went to school with a girl named Nancy Luce! Her dad, Stanley Luce, was my English lit teacher my senior year. Maybe they’re related! Also, my husband and I loved reading about your adventures years ago on QE2! We will be on the beautiful QM2 end September visiting the beautiful ports of Atlantic Canada and New England! My 50th birthday is November 16th so it’s an eraly celebration! When I was born in Southampton, Long Island a piece of my heart flew up to New England. 🙂

  24. debi sullivan says:

  25. Cammie Laird says:

After resigning from my job, that I have held since 1999, on Monday what a treat to catch up on all things Susan! I decided to take a huge leap of faith and re-think my direction what a WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL inspiration your blog, books, and website are. I decided after updating my resume and making a few contacts that today… I would give myself the day, I put in the MARVELOUS cd Ludovico Einaudi, “Una Mattina”, turn on the laptop and catch up….I am feeling better still a bit anxious but also a little excited about what lies ahead! Even though we have never met I know you are a kindred spirit, a trip into your world is like a trip to my dear departed Grandmother’s warm, full of love and all things dear to me…thank you for sharing your wonderful gifts.

  26. Simply Sara says:

Just opened another Willard in my mail box today <3 …. you always make my heart smile…..love your blog……wanted you to know I found or bought a box of Glady's Taber books (18-jackpot), when you start reading her books, you can't put them down, she is adorable. Looking forward to your new book 🙂

  29. DeAnna Passmore says:

    Susan:

I don’t know if I can find the words to tell you what an inspiration you have been to me over the past few months. Your blog is a daily reminder for me to smile (and I’m doing more and more of it thanks to you!)! My oldest daughter went away to college in August and my youngest doesn’t think I’m “cool” any more. I know it’s all part of the plan but it’s still hard to swallow! On top of that there has been turmoil in a lifelong friendship and I’ve just felt lost over the past few months. After looking at the posts and pictures on your blog, I decided to plant a flower garden for myself. I just finished putting in all my bulbs and have something beautiful (I hope!) to look forward to in the Spring! I’m also going to be ordering your 2012 calendar for my fridge as well as for my purse to keep my spirits up! Thanks for all you do!

  30. Donna says:

You asked for feedback on Willard: IT WAS FABULOUS! I can’t believe how happy I am after reading anything you post. Bless you and have fun out in California!

  31. Dana Crockett says:

Happy Autumn Susan! My husband belongs to a local model train club and works on N-scale train modules. They are just awesome to look at! We have been inspired by your trips out west by train. We are thinking of taking that train out west for our 30th anniversary. We just had our 28th! It just looks so relaxing and exciting at the same time, just seeing the world go by through your window! Thanks for the pictures! I’ve been writing to you for many many years and I remember the first time I wrote to you, you wrote me back! I was ecstatic! I have loved receiving Willard over the years and I love reading about what you are doing. Thanks so much! Dana, in Studley, Virginia. 🙂

  32. Happy Autumn, Susan!
As a mutual Gladys Taber Fan, I wonder if you’ve ever heard of Dee Hardie?
In “Taberish Style”, Dee wrote columns for House Beautiful Magazine. When her stories about her family and farm life were published in book form in the mid-80’s, I devoured them, just as I have your books and Gladys Taber’s!
I’m sure they’ll tickle your fancy as well as your funny bone! Here they are:
“Views from Thornhill: Of Family, Farm, and Other Fancies”
“Hollyhocks, Lambs & Other Passions: A Memoir of Thornhill Farm”
Thank you for sharing so much of your sunshine!
    Take care & God bless,
    Love & prayers from OH,

    Hello! I
Is there going to be a 2012 Day Book this year? Thank You 🙂

    • sbranch says:

No, so sorry, but the manufacturer that licensed my art for this product is no longer making them. You can make your opinion known of this very bad decision by writing them at http://www.lifeguardpress.com — just look for “contact” and send them an email. You would be a big help for me, because you are not alone! Thank you!

      • Cheryl says:

        Dear Susan,

On my first trip to Hawaii in 1996 I just happened to come across a Christmas book by Susan Branch in Borders at the Ala Moana Mall. I had never heard of her but I was totally mesmerised by her book. I returned home after my holiday (vacation) with my husband and searched high and low whenever I was near a book store for a Susan Branch book… I only ever found one here in Canberra Australia (The Summer book) and unfortunately I have not found any here since.

Thankfully my husband are fortunate to be able to travel and as frequent visitors to the USA, I have managed to collect a number of your books and via Amazon which ship worldwide.

I love your blog, the warm feeling and inspiration that comes with each and every book you have published!

Thank you for the wonderful things that you do, there is no one else like you.

        Kind regards,

        Cheryl

    Hi Sue,

I live in southeastern Massachusetts and was just reading a listing in the local newspaper about the animal shelters in the area. They seem to have an abundance of Kitties and also list their ages and coloring. Maybe you could stop and check them out on your way back to the Vineyard?
    See http://www.patriotledger.com

Love the blog – it is part of my daily routine now and I so enjoy your posts, photos, recipes and life musings. I’ve been a fan of yours for many years and along with so many others I enjoy this “connection” so much. Thank you for your generous spirit and optimism – we need it.

  35. Suzanne says:

    Hello Susan:
I just want to say thank you for your inspirations, I am enjoying all your Blogs and look forward to hearing all about your
adventures. I live in Ontario Canada and visited Marthas Vineyard this summer with my mom and 2 boys. While we were in
Cape Cod my mother and I came across a Thrift Barn Sale that some church ladies were hosting. We just had the time
of our lives. My mother had picked up a family recipe book for 4 dollars and has been writing all of her (and mine) favorite
traditional recipes in it. Being of Dutch Decent everything is tradition. But one of my favorite holiday traditions is at New Years Eve
she makes Apple fluppa and oli bola. I don’t even know how to translate that. But the idea is like a doughnut with apple and icing sugar.
    DELICIOUS 🙂
    Thank you again,
    Suzanne Richardson

    The Gathering
    Thanksgiving feasts come only once,
    a year,so I am told.
    Tradition isn’t something new,
    it’s very very old.

It gathers loved ones close to you,
to reminisce on days of old.
The time we’ve spent,on days gone by
    are cherished works of gold…

The pumpkin pies and sweet glazed-ham’
    appetities are hearty.
The faces round the room a glow,
    “we’re having us a party!”

May we keep in mind exactally what,
    this day is standing for.
    New world! New friends!
    The helping hands,
    of those that came before…

    your friend,Veronica

    Happy Autumn Girls!

  38. I have loved everything u do for many, many years and admire your spirit, your tenacious will and your ability to get SO MUCH done all the time! You are SUCH a friend to so many! You have certainly found your calling, girlfriend.

Tel Peg I really feel for her, as we had to put our devoted Boykin Spaniel of 13 yrs down
last Tuesday! Hardest thing I’ve EVER done : (. God bless those wonderful cats & dogs who make our days!

    • sbranch says:

God bless our little animals! Sorry about your dog too . . . very tough thing to do. Also thank you for all you said above!

  39. Shelley says:

    Hi Susan,
Thank you so much for sharing your trip by train to California. I have never traveled by train and now would love to experience this way of travel. Your pictures were fantastic!! I looked forward each day to seeing your adventures. It was a feeling of living it with you. I love the beautiful wooden recipe box, reminds me of my Grandmother!! Looking forward to your new book!! Hurry I can’t wait!!!
Happy Autumn, Happy Pumpkins, and Happy Family,

  40. Veronica says:

    Recycle gifts!
Wash and remove old labels from the plastic peanutbutter jars, etc.
    Red and green lids for’christmas’. Blue and red lids for ‘4th of July’;
Coffee lids in any size have small to large jars, with brown, rust and orange for autumn;Marshmallow creme jars with pastel lids in the spring.Possiabilities are endless.
Fill the jars with a layered recipe and attach appropriate ribbon and tag.
Special basket of whatever you desire for whatever the occassion. The point is that you are doing double duty.
    One was not enough!
Another one is to save smoothie bottles for ‘4th of july’. Fill them with your favorite homemade beverage or just water. Again! red and blue lids! Wonderful for kids. As they have a tendency to only drink part of a drink and leave the rest sitting and forgotten. Its the right size and the right amount.
No waste!!! “It’s a good thing”! Wonder who say’s that?
Good luck girls on the banana bowl.
    Veronica

  41. Chris Dowd says:

The banana dish is so adorable. Whenever I think of bananas I think of my husband. He has a banana with his oat cereal every single morning. Wouldn’t they look great waiting for him in crystal! 🙂 I have seen such dishes in my rounds through the antique shops, but also did not know what they were for. Now I know. I would love to share with you a recipe for a Jello salad that I received so many years ago from a nurse that I worked with:

    Jane’s Jello

1 6 oz. pkg. lemon or lime jello
    2 cups gingerale
    2 cups boiling water
Mix these together and let set.

    Mix:
1 cup drained crushed pineapple, save the juice
    1 cup mini marshmallows
    2 sliced bananas
    Fold into jello mixture.

    Topping:
    1 cup pineapple juice
    1/8 cup (2 Tbsp.) flour
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 egg, slightly beaten
Cook together until thick. Stir in 2 Tbsp. butter and cool. Fold into 1/2 pint whipping cream that has been whipped. Spread on jello. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Keep cold in the frig.

Ooooh! I haven’t had this in so long, and now I’m craving it. It is so delicious that I could curl up on the couch with the entire pan and a spoon. I hope you give it a try.

    Chris in Northern Michigan

  42. Ellen Abernathy says:

    Susan,
You have been part of the fabric of my life for a number of years. My dear friend Jenni and I share a love of everything you do! I have all of your books and I look at them often this time of the year to remind me of great fall/holiday ideas and recipes. I also buy two calenders a year; one for Jenni and another for me!
I run a coffee shop in an old colonial home in a quaint town in Central NJ. I have your Lenox teapot on one of my fireplace mantles, so you are near and dear to me every day.
Thanks for all you do. We love and appreciate it!
    Ellen

  43. Suzanne Talbot says:

    Hi Susan,
Just want you to know that I am one of the people who “snapped up” a set of the green depression glasses you and Joe found on your recent trip. And I LOVE them!
Have always loved the idea of short glasses instead of the long-stemmed ones that tip over too easily.
This is my first post but have been buying your books and cards for years. Now I love reading your blog in the morning when it is there. And of course, Willard. I just soak up everything you write like a sponge! Loved your tweets from the twain!
Am always looking at your online shop for the next treasure!
You definitely do have the “happy gene” and you spread happiness to all who know you.
Like everyone else, I can’t wait to read your new book. No pressure!
    Hugs from Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA,
    Suzanne

  44. Marla Williams says:

I so love your Willard and would like to be part of your blog but I can’t figure out how to respond. I’ve added you to my google home page, so what am I not doing? I am one of your senior admirers so these techie things don’t come easy.:)

    • sbranch says:

Go to the bottom of each post, you’ll see a teeeeny little word “Comments” with a number next to it…click there and you can comment! Nice to have you here Maria!

  45. Marla Williams says:

Susan, Susan, you are just tooooo super. I would love to have that wonderful banana dish – I’ve seen those but didn’t know what they were for. I have one tip for housekeeping – at this stage of my life, if I get too serious about it, I just go out for lunch with a girlyfriend, and the urge passes.

  46. Patricia says:

    Dear Susan-
This is probably a silly suggestion- I’m very sure you’re much too busy to get involved. But I wondered about the possibility of a “pen pal” exchange. I love to write and unfortunately, though I’ve tried to get pen pals through other avenues, it’s rare to find people who are interested in the same things. And here is your blog filled with lots of people who have the exact same (or very similar) interests as me! Wow! I’m not on Facebook so I can’t contribute or ask on your FOSB page (though I do Tweet on Twitter). Wouldn’t it be lovely if a bunch of ladies who were so inclined could exchange addresses and have good old fashioned post now and again? Someone once told me you’re either a writer or you’re not- and if you are you must write daily…like breathing. I think that description applies to me. 🙂 Anyway this is just a little suggestion as an idea for the future.
    Hugs,
    Patricia x

    • sbranch says:

Maybe someone will answer this, and it will happen! My pen pal, who is now my dear friend, is coming from England for Thanksgiving!

  47. Julie Borg says:

It’s finally here! My new calendar came in the mail today! Can’t wait to open it and enjoy! Thanks Susan!

  48. LETICIA CHAVEZ says:

Hello Miss Branch just wanted to let you know how much i just love your site, it is so great to see everything you put out there for us, you are an inspiration, love all your recipes and ideas, you are awsome thank you!! JUST LOVE YOUR BOOKS! keep them coming please!!

  49. I would love to get a copy of the new book with all those yummy recipes. Maybe I will have favor! I suggested to my son that since I was really tired from teaching 6 year olds and recovering from foot surgery, maybe this Thanksgiving we could buy the food from the local ham store…. my one and only son looked at me and said “mom, don’t go screwing up the holiday by changing traditions!” You are going to rest and I am going to cook you a full blown turkey dinner…. (Lord, please help the boy and protect me from what he prepares!!! This is going to be a very interesting meal. I am going to leave it all up to him. I will be sitting on the couch close by so that I can walk him through everything. Wonder what the kitchen will look like when he is finished?!!!
p.s. Susan, do you have room for 2 more people at your table just in case????(LOL)
    Kathy

  50. Judi Davis says:

This new cookbook, Celebrations sounds wonderful! Of course if Susan has anything to do with it, it will be wonderful! I have a friend at work and we always share recipes of things we’ve tried that we think are good. I’ve recently been laid off and one of the things I will miss the most is getting new recipes from her! Thank you for all the wonderful things you are always doing for your “friends.” Judi Davis

  51. Kathy McKinstry says:

    Hi Susan,
I am hooked on your Willard letters! I bought your “Original snail mail Willards” when it was first offered and am very glad you decided to publish it. I have all of 2011 Willards, (love this month’s) and thought I’d start looking for some more. I found August thru November 2010 online, but can’t find January-July or the month of December 2010? Did you write any during those months or are they not available anymore online? I could read anything you write everyday, I enjoy you so much, and lastly, I own just about every book you have written!!!!
    Kathy from CT.
p.s your artwork is just beautiful!!!!

    • sbranch says:

Thank you so much Kathy! I don’t think there was one for December 2010; won’t be this year either. I’m really not sure, because in those days we didn’t really keep track of them! We’re doing a better job of it now! The blog has been a big help! You are so sweet to ask!

  52. Jan Stutzman says:

Love your blog and your messages and all you do. How funny that you mention The Bishop’s Wife, I just purchased a copy of it a few weeks ago, I pick up the old classics anytime I see them. Since you mentioned it, it might have to go to the top of the viewing list. Happy Thanksgiving and keep up the great work. Jan in TN

  58. Elisa Guthrie says:

I have just discovered your blog and I love it! It has lots of things that just fit me. I love the magazine “Where Women Create” and happened up on one in the library and you were in it. So I looked at your blog Wednesday night and I am hooked I can’t get off of it. Lol! I am still trying to backtrack through the rest of the year.
I love cookbooks, I love quotes, I love Martha’s Vineyard, you have it all. A few years ago I made a cookbook with my cousin for our family. My grandparents had just passed away and we took recipes that had been handed down plus new ones and compiled them into a cookbook. I also put my favorite quotes and stories that my family had told about each other growing up. I had pictures in it of my grandparents and their children and at the very front was kind of a mini history of them. Needless to say it is big. But I love it and I had not been able to find something like it till now. So eventually I will have to purchase your cookbook and other things.
Your blog is on my favorites and will remain. Thank you for doing this blog and giving me ideas and making me see that maybe I can do something like this after all.
    With warmest regards,
    Elisa Guthrie

    merry Christmas susan!!!
thank you for a blog that draws us all so close together in heart! you truly do feel like my girlfriend!
i have a boatload of holiday traditions that are especially meaningful, but this year is a tad different. i am flat on my back and have had to let go of so many things, which includes minimal decorating (2/3 of my stuff stays in the shed) and no baking. of course i can still LOVE my Christmas music and candles burning their vanilla sweetness. i am NOT COMPLAINING, though. what i am gaining is a new perspective – and the joyful anticipation of family gathering here – the best decoration of all !!! it will be a different celebration this year, but i’m excited because i know being together will just be magnified, rather than being diminished by the normal expectations. for that, i am feeling grateful! 🙂

congrats on the new publication! AND have a WONDERFUL Christmas!
    heidi

ps. i had the opportunity to meet you at your AG property at one of your sales a year or so ago…i am thankful for that meeting – and for the items, including a beautiful old window and a white rose pin that i wear on my lapel, that make me smile!

    • heidi shorts says:

oh and i almost forgot! whether i win or not, i just wanted to comment on lois lenski…before you said her name, i just knew those were her illustrations…she has such a sweet, simple, recognizable style. i have always loved her work! looking at those drawings takes me back to childhood:)

    • sbranch says:

You’ll make up for it next year, and you sound wonderful about it!!

  60. Carol Cooley says:

This is my first blog, or comment, whatever you call it. I’ve been addicted to your books and art for years. I Love the little Christmas book. As an elementary school teacher, I am in love with books. I pick these types of books up at garage sales, used book shops, etc. they do add some nostalgia to the Christmas season! I hope I win! Merry Happy Christmas!

  61. zinnia patch says:

hi susan! i just received my cookies from Willard… and i just wanted to take the time to thank you…not only for sharing your recipes but for all the time and hard work it takes to put something so beautiful together. I love your blog and i so enjoy the little glimpes you give us into your life, and reading all the comments from the other girlfriends. Thank you

  62. DeAnna says:

Susan! I just finished reading all the blog entries you’ve made after being sick for a few days and not feeling like seeing anything but my warm blankie and a pillow. Your nieces are adorable! I’m getting ready to make royal icing for the cookies I’ve made as well. YOU, my dear friend, are a gift to all of us…including me! You share your life with us and your pictures as well as your heart. Thank you! I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Oh, by the way, I’m using my tea towels I purchased from your site and I love, love, love them! Thank you for being wonderful YOU!

  63. Silvia Niomi says:

I can’t wait for part 2…. I even read your blog with the music and fireplace. Every time the music ran out, I’d stop reading and reload the music…. it was just magical. The ambience created a very nice ‘blog’ experience and your story is warm and nostalgic. I can feel the anticipation in the air as your grandmother (btw her car is too cute) arrives with all her presents. Can’t wait to see what happens next. Better go and tend to my fireplace:)

  64. KATHIE says:

    HELLO SUSAN,

ALL OVER AGAIN…THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES…CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT CHAPTER…
    HAPPIEST HOLIDAYS…KATHIE

    • KATHIE says:

WHY DOES IT ALWAYS SAY WAITING MODERATION WHEN I WRITE TO THE BLOG?

      • sbranch says:

Because I have to approve all the comments before they go up — otherwise our comments would be filled with silly spam — it comes in at the same time and I have to filter it out!

    • sbranch says:

It’s working now Kathie! Sorry if it’s been a pain, sometimes there are gremlins!

      • KATHIE says:

        DEAR SUSAN,

I received a Susan Branch Homemade Recipes scrapbook binder for Christmas from my son.. where can I purchase more recipe cards and protective sheets with sleeves? Michael’s Craft Store? I do not purchase things online. Also, are there sleeves in which to put smaller.. like 4 recipe carsds on each side as I have a lot of favorite recipes and want to get them all in one place.. thanks!

    • sbranch says:

The manufacturer did not make extra pages, so we made them ourselves so our customers would have them — unfortunately the only place they are available is on our website . . . you can call customer service at 805-474-5836 and Kellee can help you order and ship them to you. Hope this helps!

  66. DeAnna Passmore says:

    Susan!

Happy New Year my friend! We have had unseasonably warm weather here in Ohio! I’m sure you will look beautiful in ANYTHING…don’t worry about those few extra pounds. I see you have a summer book but have you ever made a Spring book? I’m starting a collection of all your works and would like to know! Have a super weekend!

    Thank you,

  69. Laura says:

I just finished reading the brand new willard newsletter. I just buried my dad on Dec. 20th. This Christmas was very different, my daughter just turned 3 and we pulled it off for her even without her beloved “Papa” who we buried 5 days earlier. For at least the past 8 years I have received your wonderful calendar and this year I’m glad to say that it was under the tree. It felt comforting and on New Year’s Day I hung it up. It melted my heart that January was titled “Reasons to go on Living”. I treasure your books, the old snail mail and now this new format. You bring hope through the simple things in life. Thank-you for inspiring me to reach towards my mom and remind her of a love that lasted for 43 years. I want to help her cherish and celebrate that love this Valentine’s day even though it will be the first one without my amazing dad. Thank-you from the bottom of my HEART!!!!!!!

  70. Rose says:

    Hi Susan,
You are such an inspiration to me. I love to draw, paint and quilt. I am a senior citizen now unable to walk well or work any longer. I love to paint and would love to be able to use my talent for some kind of income. Do you have any suggestions how I can start to possibly earn some money to fund my income?
I just adore your drawings and yes, tea things too. I love tea parties. By the way, I made your macaroon recipe for Christmas and everyone loved them, thanks to you. I do want you to know that I think you are the best. Thank you.
    Rose

    • sbranch says:

Have you ever heard of Etsy Rose? Google it, if not … it’s little online stores where people sell the things they’ve made; maybe you could make cards and bookmarks with your art? You are so kind Rose, thank you so much!

  71. megster says:

Love it, love it, love it – thanks so much for brightening my day !

  72. LETICIA CHAVEZ says:

  73. Wendy says:

Helloooooo! I have followed you, your wonderful art, motivational writing, sweet and warm thoughts for years but lately your blog and Willard seem to matter much more. I hope to push ‘life’ aside so I can make time for releasing my creative urges!! You are such a ‘real’ person, a true friend to all of us out here in space and I do appreciate your endeavors. We are so blessed that you find the time for all that you do. It requires an amazing amount of thought, preparation and talent for all your work. I LOVE that you are a CAT person! The icing on the cake! Thank you!
PS…. I have a shop on Etsy… it is quite the environment for talented people. A wonderful suggestion for Rose.

  74. Kathy says:

Hi, Wondering about the 2012 Heart of the Home wall calendars…I always buy one for me and another for my sister, we absolutely love them. But I don’t see any available on your site right now. I live wayyy out in the woods so shopping online is easiest, but will head in to a book store if I have to for them.
Will you have any available in the near future?
    Thanks!

    • sbranch says:

Oddly this year, for the first time, they all sold out! On Amazon and Calendars.com too! I don’t know where you can find one. . . maybe try googling it. Sorry!

    • pam eaton says:

I found wall calendars by looking in ask.com. I thought my message about it was on this bolg, but I cannot find the note I wrote. I too had waited too long to get a calendar here or at a brick store, so I found a site and called the lady in WA) and she had several…maybe still there, who knows? Good luck!
P.s. I absolutely LOVE the desk blotter. Not only is it a great place to write (right there on the desk instead of trying to get my pen to write on the wall, but the graphics are great to cut out for my scrapbooking and the quality of the paper is astonding.

  75. Jeanne says:

Love your blog……always something wonderful to see. Please enter me into your little salt shaker giveaway. Soooo Cute.
Thank you for making a nice day !

  76. Deb from Dixie says:

A note for Judy and Kellee,
Just had to write and let you know how excited I was to get my order. I have been caretaking for my Mom for the past seven weeks, and just got home last night. And there waiting for me were two big boxes……everything in the order came through the mail perfectly.
The pillows are wonderful and so Big! The books, box of cards, so special; and my winter project will be transfering all my recipies into my new recipie notebook. This morning over a cup of coffee, I began to read the book of past Willards……ah, they are so special! And of course the Love book ….is a Valentine…..in itself! Susan is such an inspiration, creative soul and sends great mojo to all us girlfriends! The Blog is just a teriffic connection!
Just wanted you to say thank you to you two, too!
    Have a wonderful day!

  77. Cathy Grich says:

Susan, thank you for your lovely thoughts on spring. I am actually a “Neighbor” OF YOURS, IF YOU GO ACROSS THE WATER AND UP NORTH A WAY TO COAST GUARD BEACH IN EASTHAM. (sorry, my nail hit the caps) I have been out in my garden a lot this winter, cleaning up, cutting brush. I save Willard for a time when I am in a thoughtful mood, and today is that day. The dogs are quiet and I can think. Is that a brownie uniform you are wearing in you “Princess Leia” pic? I think I have the same pic but my hair is in braids. Thank you so much for your creative inspirations…they feed my soul…Cathy

  78. Ellie says:

Hi Susan…..Loved the blog that started with the recipes!…..I’m inspired!!….On the second photo down from the recipes is a picture of a light, a magazine of Martha’s Vineyard and a beautiful picture…….What is that picture and is it available anywhere?….It looks like an antique but maybe YOU painted it……I love it and it reminds me of the picture I loved so much in the “I Love England” column…..the one with the sweet, little path and the sheep and the countryside……It was old and not available anywhere…..but I love your picture too……Just wanted to know if it is available and thank you for the recipes and all the lovely “spring” photos!….SPRING….Here you come!!!!!!!…..Thank you…..Ellie

  79. Cathy Prentice says:

I am always so anxious to see what happens with Williard each month…I so enjoyed your remarks about cursive writing. I cannot imagine our kids not learning how to write. I, too, keep journals but I also add everything I have been doing so ticket stubs, pictures of the grand kids amd recipes all end up in there. Yours are far more beautiful!

  80. pam eaton says:

SUsan, just feedback about the recipe bindersd and the sprial bound ones. I would like to see more pics of the contents of the books. I had hesitated buying from online becasue of that. I finally got to see a binder in an Archiver’s store and bought one for my aunt to save her recipes. I noticed that the large format recipe “cards” fit in the sleeves perfectly, but the smsller cards I am used to seeing/using will slide around. Maybe next time the book (or additional pages can have some of the other size too? I have not seen a spiral bound one up close, so I do not know what size cards the inside sleeves hold.
Thanks for proving such a creative way to save some of my family treasures! I would not have thought of combining a photo with the recipe before and now that makes so much sense I cannot beleive I had not thought about it.

  81. Sandy Close says:

I have so enjoyed your blog and tweets. Luckily, I began following you this year or I would have missed all those lovely pictures and commentary from England.
I will never forget that you sent me a 2012 calendar from your cupboard in January. You are a genuinely kind person. From many years of loving your calendars and books, I felt like you would be that kind of person. Such happiness and utter contentment of home radiates from your work. You are a true artist whose drawings, photographs, and words make me smile every day! The places you visited in England are exactly the scenes I cherish. Thank you, Susan Branch. I LOVE YOU!! Plain and simple. I don’t know you personally and only saw you once at an event, but YOU are a national treasure. I’m so happy about the books you’re working on. I am an Anglophile and like all the English things you have in your home. You must have been so inspired by beautiful England and I look forward to seeing how you express all that charm in your work. 94. Donna Rose Houchen says:

Just had to write again. I LOVED your story on WILLIAM MORRIS! I’m pretty sure we’re sisters, because we have the same “take” on life. I went to graduate school in England 30 years ago and never had the chance to see Bibury and Morris’ beautiful home. Your video, photos and observations are wonderful and I’m even more excited to see it soon. The narrow boats brought me back to my time in England traveling ever so slowly, taking in the English countryside. A cup of tea was always available and I felt like I was in heaven. Thank You for bringing back all those memories. xoxo

  95. lesa says:

  96. Val says:

    Hi, Susan–

Hi…I have a question for an expert as yourself. I’ve inherited a HUGE set of china which is marked K&A Krautheim Selb Bavaria Germany on each piece. I’ve been looking for the name of the pattern to no avail. I did find it to be #3135,tho. It has tiny green and pink leaves around the edges of each piece.
Would you have any info on this set? Any response would be welcome.
