I LOVE this newsletter!! I’m so glad to receive my Willards; I can never postpone my gratification, but always eagerly open them right away. It feels like you are speaking directly to me. By the way, I copied the quote you have on your refrigerator magnet years ago & always put it on my syllabus every semester. I teach developmental writing at a local community college & feel that my students need all the encouraging words available. My source attributed the quote to Mark Twain although I confess I have never researched to see if that is true.
Have a wonderful trip, take lots of pictures, and share with all of us as soon as you get home.
    Bon Voyage!
    Judy

    Susan,
All I can tell you about Hill Top farm is that you should not go to England without seeing it. My husband and I made that trip in 1996 for our 25th wedding anniversary and I have never forgotten it. There are good great little pubs in that area and we did enjoy eating there. It will definitely bring you back in time with the rolling hills, sheep everywhere and low stone fences. Absolutely fairytale-like. Have a great trip, England is so worth it,

We’re headed off May 11th on a cruise to the western Carribean to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. I’ll use these cute toppers above for our going away party! Thanks, Susan!

Your cupcake toppers are great (I love your chickens). If you run these off on full-page label sheets, you can skip the glue and they are self-sticking (back-to-back on themselves or on colorful scrapbook paper). I found out recently that Beatrice Potter and I share birthdays! When my son was born, a friend gave me one of her beautifully-illustrated books, and tucked inside was a copy of a letter that Ms. Potter had handwritten to a young child. Very special gift.

England, England, how I long to see it all. I will be living vicariously through you. I am taking notes about your adventure, because I have plans to visit there in a couple of years. I don’t want to miss a single lovely detail. I have been dreaming of this trip for a while. Have a wonderful time, make great memories.
    Ta ta for now,
    Patti

Ok…have an absolutely beautiful time! ♥ When you get back, I’ll need a set of bon voyage cake toppers that sport a home-made raft! I often think about your “The Raft” story and it never gets old! So, this summer…in my imagination (of course), I am taking a river raft trip!!! (I’ll be home to set the dinner table, for sure!). ha ha ha! We can’t wait to read as you travel….what a grand way to be able to go with you! Happy sailing, girlfriend! xo peg

River raft, how fun Peg! I did that once, not a trip with a guide, but just a bunch of us with lots of inner tubes! Tiny river, our rear ends were only about an inch above the riverbed! — but it had enough oomph to give a bit of a thrill on some of the turns.

Susan, I am getting so excited for the trip. It feels just like I’m accompanying you and Joe. We are going to have such a wonderful time! And these toppers are going to be just the thing for our bon voyage party. 🙂

Oh, I can hardly wait to travel to England and back to the Lake District with you, virtually. I was last there in 2000. (that is ALL I’m saying!)

I love all you share with us, your fan club, admirers, and fellow women ‘who understand’ what you love.

    Happy travels to you!

I was so excited when I opened my newsletter and read about your upcoming trip. I made 2 trips to England when my daughter lived there for 3 years – I instantly fell in love with it for all the same reasons you mentioned and hope to be fortunate enough to visit again sometime. When I came home, I vowed to have my backyard nothing but Queen Annes Lace – ha! But much to my chagrin, haven’t had any success. If you can, find out how to make that possible – I just love the open airiness, flowing in the wind white luscious feel it has – that would be a blessing. ENJOY every minute and I will be anxious to read all about your journey!!

I think it depends on where you live. Certain plants will just love your dirt, sky, water, wind … and others just will not. That was one of the biggest lessons I learned in all those gardens. If you want gorgeous, you have to plant things that LOVE your house.

  10. Elaine says:

Dear Susan, I am so glad you and Joe are going! You will love the Lake District, of course. I just wish I could see your face full of delight as you explore Hill Top Farm. I’m looking forward to your adventure, too!

I haven’t even finished reading Willard and I had to click over to these cupcake toppers! Thank you- such fun! Alice and I are secretly (or not so secretly anymore) hoping we serendipitously choose the same day as you and Joe to go to Hill Top….! Of course no matter when you go we’ll be with you- all of us girlfriends! Xx

O Susan I just love the little cupcake toppers! Thank you. I just thought I would tell you a little story about when I first found out I was pregnant with my beautiful baby boy (almost 16 years ago!) The first thing I ever brought him (when he was still snug as a bug inside) was BP’s Peter Rabbit book collection that came with the softest cutest Peter Rabbit toy! We still have the box set and the toy but I have never been to see BP’s home, maybe I will be inspired after your trip! I have said before that we live in the burbs but we are very lucky because 5/10 mins in any direction we have rolling countyside. This year I am going to make sure I see more of it because you have inspired me! Have a great day Susan xxxx

The most beautiful rolling country I’m sure, because I think that’s all you have over there! Will be a nice trip for you!

How darling of you to give us this little cupcake topper gift!! I love it!!! Will be fun to make cupcakes, have tea, and join you and Joe and all the girlfriends as we take off on our journey. The anticipation of it all is reminding me of how I felt getting ready to watch William and Kate’s wedding! Hee-hee!

Ah England. I got to spend 5 days in London and we meant to go out of that town to seesome of England, but couldn’t. London was so fasinating. Now maybe we should go again….I can’t wait to read your blog adventures. I try to keep saving! I’ve been saving little bits for a couple years. It’s hard to say “NO” to buying stuff unless there is a great goal dangling in front of you, like a carrot for a donkey. LOL Enjoy every minute!
