BLUEBERRY ANGEL CAKE

RABBIT RABBIT!  MUSICA.

It’s May, it’s May, that Lusty Month of May!  Hi Girls.  I promised, if you asked, I would give you the recipe for Blueberry Angel Cake sooner rather than later, and you asked!  So, here it is!  Happy May Day!  You deserve it, you’ve been sooooo good. I have much love for you! Your comments are amazing! xoxo

Easy, wonderful cake . . . ENJOY!

In honor of May Day, I’m going to let our Giveaway (scroll down to the post just following this one if you missed it) continue a few more days, to make sure everyone has a chance to sign up.  If you already did, you don’t have to leave another comment because you are already entered, but you can if you want because Vanna is not only beautiful but smart . . . she knows to choose from only one of each comment, which means you can talk all you want.  And I thought I’d sweeten the pot just a wee bit to celebrate May!  Someone is going to win BOTH my SUMMER and GIRLFRIEND’S Books, and in addition, we’ll draw one more name, for this:

It’s my brand new (I forgot to tell you!) COUNTING OUR BLESSINGS, BOOK OF DAYS.  Kellee called me yesterday to remind me that “the Blessings Book” came in during my months in the FINE ROMANCE tunnel and I just forgot to mention it.  (Now that’s a tunnel!)

I designed this book and sent it in last year, just before we sailed away to England — another lifetime ago!

I based it on my old DAYS BOOK (which is out of print now) — so it can be used as a Journal, a Birthday Book, or a Dream Book, but since we are such Blessing Counters around here , I thought it would be a wonderful place to jot down the best things of each day, what we learned, and words of wisdom, so those memories last forever, and can even be passed down to people we love.  If you’re not already entered for the other two books, just leave a comment at the bottom of this post, and we’ll draw for both prizes at the same time.

It’s the little things that make up a lifetime — we’ll take care of the minutes and the years will take care of themselves.

Here’s a minute: Our tulips are in bloom!  Blessing. Check!

Not all of us are experiencing bowers of flowers right now — and washing in snow, fair maid or not, is not quite the same as “washing in dew!”  There are still snowstorms out there!  So, this is for you, all of you really, if you run to your door, you might (If I had my way) find one of these hanging on your door knob, from me to you with love, a bouquet in a wallpaper cone (from our dining room wallpaper). Such a sweet tradition, leaving garden flowers on friend’s doors.  The red flower is from our quince bush, which is obviously celebrating FLORA, the Goddess of Flowers, which has nothing whatever to do with Frosty, the god of snow! Go away Frosty!

This is what we want now!

May, Flowers, CAKE, and books, who could ask for anything more?  The tiny frosting on the cake would be if you haven’t seen the movie featuring this Musica (playing right now if you clicked on it at the top of this post), you might want to put it on your list.  FRIENDLY PERSUASION  is a wonderful sweet old movie; it will make you cry, and you know how we love that.  XOXOX

    Hi Sue,

Happy May day to you and all the girlfriends! Thank you for the blueberry cake recipe………am getting excited to make it. I love to shop and get all the ingredients and turn up the Musica as you delight us with ……and then bake! I learned from my Mom as a child how much fun baking was and she loved music and to sing and played the piano and she was so full of life, love and caring and always reached out ot others. You Sue are just like that. All the flowers, all the recipes, all the uplifting quotes, all your adventures, all your books, you just brighten my soul with all you do! Your newest book…….I would so treasure and write in it every day…..am a journal keeper too! Have a wonderful Monday! Hugs&Smiles 🙂 Barb

Good morning, Susan. Just a little note to say, “Pick me!” Here in Washington state we’re experiencing outrageously nice weather for this time of year. It’s been around 80-85 degrees this week. You might not know, but that is NOT normal for us. As we speak (type?) one of my boys is reading on the porch and the other is shooting baskets. The rain is sure to find us again soon, but for now we’ll take our little bit of summer where we can find it.

Your postings always brighten my day! Can’t wait to try the blueberry angel cake-I just made an angel food cake last week for a friend and now I can make this one for my family!

  5. EJ says:

    Love,

We have the Summer book and our family loves the West Chop Corn recipe,I’ve passed it around (with due credit)to extended family. I’d love to give a copy of your book to my daughter.

  7. Happy Monday Susan/Girlfriends…..I decided this morning to go back and read some of your comments and found myself getting low and feeling anxious. My heart goes out to so many of you especially Sondra who right now is watching her dear husband slip away from her and Sondra none of us are guaranteed the next minute in this World…..you will never be alone it sounds like you have a loving family around you. My wish for you and all the others going through what you are is to cherish each moment you have left with your loved one and once they have left the memories will always give you comfort. I also sense so much depression whether it be caused by poor health (I totally relate to that), or financial burdens which can cause so much stress, and also with one comment abuse from a spouse even if it is verbal and not physical it still hurts. Susan, your compassion and comments of encouragement is so very special. I think everyday that we are blessed to be able to wake up with HOPE maybe today will be better is a true gift…..Susan you always encourage us to Count Our Blessings….I agree and do not gauge your life by someone elses blessings which is very hard not to do, find something in our lives that gives us pleasure….family/friends, a God given talent, baking/cooking, gardening, an adorable pet, just anything that makes you smile. Life may not seem fair and from time to time we all have burdens; but, The Lord will not abandon you and HE places people in our lives like you Susan to give so many people here on your blog happiness and hope and that my friend is such a true blessing and I just want to say THANK YOU from myself and for all the Girlfriends for everything you do (I’m sure at the cost of your own inner peace from time to time.) I’m not trying to portray a perfect life because I have my own share of personal problems; but, I do care and have faith and each day I start and end my day with this special prayer…”Lord, please take all of my doubts and fears and replace them with HOPE”. Blessings to Everyone.

Dear Susan, I have been away too long. Today I’ve decided that with all the chaos in the news, all I really need is you, your website, your girlfriends, and my Bible, to retain a grateful, loving spirit, and I need these every day! Yes, it would be wonderful to win your delectable prizes, but more importantly, I want you to know my heart. Sending you love and admiration…

    • sbranch says:

Sometimes I have to do the same thing, be a good chaperone and feed myself from the well of all good things. Good for you Gini!

  12. Elaine Ferris says:

Susan…I can see that you fell love with the Yorkshire Dales just as I did. From England originally.I had never visited the Dales until a few years ago and hope to go back someday. thanks for everything you do.

    • sbranch says:

IN LOVE. Shot through the heart with the view out in that wild country, the history, oh my, can cry thinking about it.

  13. I loved the last Book of Days you illustrated. I still have mine. Recently a bought a second hand copy for a gift. I’d love to see the new one! I do record my 5 sources of gratitude each day. It is a great little book for that.

    • sbranch says:

I count my blessings too, and on the days that aren’t as good, I read them, and boom, I’m back!

  14. Raenell Cannady says:

    Hi Susan…
I looked at your new line of calendars for 2014 and I didn’t see a new desk blotter calendar. I am sure hoping you are going to continue with that….is there one coming out for 2014? …..xo ….have a great day….Raenell

    • sbranch says:

I’m sorry to say, but Lifeguard Press, the manufacturer of the blotter, has decided they don’t want to do them anymore. Really sorry to say, ;-( — we love that calendar, but no, no more.

  15. Jackie says:

What a fun and inspiring blogpost today….. thank you!! I would love to win the books. Everything you do is so positive.

  16. Lauren Andersen says:

I love artichokes! My Grammy came up with a good dip for them. All it is is equal parts mayo and sour cream, a squirt of lemon juice and a sprinkle of dill. She called it “goup” (not sure if spelled correctly but pronounced goop). It is the BEST! I think you’d love it!

  17. Ginger says:

Susan, happy May, happy spring to you! The blueberry angel food cake looks delicious. Will definitely have to try it. But, I am most excited about your new days of blessings book. I have your old days book & just love it. Hope I am not too late for Vanna’s drawing!
No pressure ~ I know you are still recovering from the “fine romance tunnel,” but just wondered if you have a time line for your breakfast book. I read your pancakes story several years ago, and ask about being able to get a hard copy of it. You said it would be in your breakfast book. So, I anxiously await!!
    Sweet spring days to you!

    • sbranch says:

It sure will be Ginger! We’re sort of following up on A FINE ROMANCE, getting our ducks in a row to visit book stores, but I will definitely work on it soon. Thank you for remembering!

  18. Kathye Ogle says:

I just pre-ordered your new book and cannot wait to have it in my hands! I plan to sit out among my flowers and take the trip to England with you through your wonderful words and illustrations! I also have a question…..awhile back you had a photo of some animal cracker cookies in your blog and I wondered where you got those cookies? They look like the ones I remember as a child, with lots of detail on them. The ones I find now don’t even look like animals:) !! Thanks for all your beautiful work, Susan. Happy Spring!!

    • sbranch says:

Hmmm, I know which ones you mean, but I don’t know where I got them. I remember looking for detailed ones though, for a circus cake I was making. I think I found them at the supermarket. Sorry, I wish I could tell you more.

  19. Violet says:

I have your old Days book!
I look at it ,the first of every month ,to celebrate every month.
I am a very seasonal person and your book brings me so much joy.
Excited to eventually get your new Days book!

  20. Janeen says:

I would love to win copies of your books. I love the artwork and your encouraging messages.

  21. Ellen says:

Just wanted to let you know that I made the Angel Dream Cake for Mother’s Day and it was absolutely heavenly. I chose it because I wanted something lighter than a regular cake for my new healthy eating regimen, but I didn’t feel at all like I was missing out on anything. So light and moist and lemony and just delicious. One of my favorite of your recipes for sure!!!

    • sbranch says:

Oh I’m so happy, makes me feel good to hear that! I hope everyone around you said, yuuuum, thank you Ellen, and smacked their lips a lot!
