  4. Kim Tilton says:

    Hello Susan,
Like most of your admirers, I feel like an old friend. Having started to purchase your cookbooks and calendars so many years ago and having connections to the Vineyard (my husband is 13th generation Vineyarder) I feel compelled to write a comment in hopes of securing ‘Peter Rabbit’. My Grandmother was born in Yorkshire and I had always hoped to return with her to tour her country but somehow life got in the way. She returned several times herself and now, thanks to your big suitcase, I feel I saw all that she would have wanted me to see. Thank you for a most enjoyable trip. I’m leaving for my summer vacation along the Maine coast and will surely have a Jane Austin book with me and maybe ‘Peter Rabbit’. Thank you for putting the ‘Brit’ back into my life.
    ~Kim

It’s so much fun being around someone who loves something so much they have to jump over the coffee table! I feel I need to do that now! Can’t wait until tomorrow! xoxo ♥

Susan, My four year old just got interested in the Beatrix Potter stories, although they are a bit over her head. She would love to have that little book on her shelf (maybe when she’s 8!) And, when she’s even older she will love that it was presented by you!
I enjoyed your trip so much and I know you are working hard on the book while the memories are fresh. What a great joy it will be when your own book is out!

        • Christy says:

          Days of the Week Poem
Monday’s child is fair of face
Tuesday’s child is full of grace
Wednesday’s child is full of woe (I was born on a Wednesday but full of woe doesn’t really fit, haha!)
Thursday’s child has far to go
Friday’s child is loving and giving (my first and second babies were each born on a Friday)
Saturday’s child works hard for a living
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
is bonny and blithe, and good and gay! (my youngest baby was born on a Sunday morning!)

      • Saturday’s child works hard for his/her living!

      • Janet says:

Me three! I’m a Saturday too and I can certainly vouch that “works hard for her living” is true! But I’m so lucky – I love what I get to do!

  43. Maxine says:

Thanks for sharing your trip to England….

  44. Judi D. says:

Susan I too have collected the little Beatrix Potter books for quite some time. My daughter just came back from her honeymoon in Paris and brought me a little Peter Rabbit book written entirely in French! It is so cute. Have loved every minute of your blog. Looking forward to the winner of this grand book! 🙂

  45. Terri from Swansboro, NC says:

Perfect song for a perfect moment… These are the good old days aren’t they? Loved the video, Carly looked SO young there (we all did back in 1987 didn’t we?) LOL!! Did you get a chance to see her then? How cool that would have been! How relaxing with the birds and docks and salt life in the background… I live in a coastal area and enjoy those very same views… been all around the world and I came back home by the water… not on it, but near it! LOL!!

  46. You are the BEST!!! I agree with Mary – your blog is just like Christmas in July!!!!!

  47. Cindy Bailey says:

Please add me to the contest! I have collected Beatrix Potter all my life and for my daughter (now 19) and she is now collecting too!

  48. Sue says:

Once more for luck! I wanted to tell you I made the White Bean Salad and the Corn Salsa this weekend – both were amazing and, for the most park, eaten directly, as a group, out of the bowl!!!

  49. Ann says:

Oh no! I have two sons born on a Wednesday. Does anyone know the entire days of the week? I think Friday’s child is loving and giving and Saturday’s child has to work for a living.

    • sbranch says:

Here it is, but remember it’s only a little nursery rhyme and Wednesday’s child can’t be true . . . try these on for size:
looks good in snow, knows how to row, loves her beau, has no foe, loves to sew . . . 🙂

Mondays child is fair of face,
Tuesdays child is full of grace,
Wednesdays child is full of woe,
Thursdays child has far to go,
Fridays child is loving and giving,
Saturdays child works hard for his living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe and good and gay.

  50. Maria R. Wexler says:

I am a big fan of rabbits and I remember when I was young my mother would read me this story. It is a wonderful tale and a good teaching for children of all ages. Have a wonderful day.

  61. Marye Downs says:

I would love to win… but I feel like I’m a winner already just being able to follow you on your trip. Every day I enjoyed seeing the “Mother Country”. Since your blog, I definitely want to put England on my bucket list. So many wonderful places and you helped me escape from my eldercare responsibilities (alzheimer’s for my mother in law) for a moment each day. That was a gift!
Thanks! I think I’ll go have a cup of tea!

  62. Toni from North Carolina says:

Hope Im not too late to enter the contest. Just got back on here after being sick for a while. It would be neat to have a piece of England seeings how I will never be able to get there…..Oh Well. Maybe in My next Life…LOL Thanks Susan for sharing 🙂

  64. Carilyn Wolski says:

Hello Susan! So glad to hear the winner will be chosen Thursday. Better health today and can enjoy your blog ……..my favorite “happy place” to be!!! Just might cozy-up near the window to enjoy the summer rain showers as I embroider my daughter’s initials on hot pink towels for her dorm room. She is moving to college in less than 30 days 🙁 My little baby muffin is all grown up!!!

  65. Debbie in So,Ca. says:

Anticipation, excitement, it really is just like Christmas in July. Just yesterday I was feeling like I needed a little Christmas, so I got out your Christmas book and drank in all of the stories and watercolored pictures. I especially love the one of the Mother’s Grandmother, and kids cutting carrots, cutting potatoes… I actually closed my eyes and prayed that one day I would live this moment! Following you Susan, I have found that… dreams really can come true! Much Love going out to all of you Sister’s.

  66. Leah Brooks says:

I swear I posted the other day but now I’m not seeing it. I just have to post again to make sure I’m in the running for the Potter book! 🙂

  67. Karen Saunders says:

I know this is off the ‘beaten path’ but I was just wondering, was Jack all grown up when you got back?? Or does he still look like a kitty? (I’m sure he still acts like one!) He’s so funny he makes me just laugh when I see a picture of him with his little mustache and all….

    • sbranch says:

He still looks like a kitty, I was SO HAPPY, I was afraid I would miss something, but I don’t really think I did. I’ve been painting him into the Diary all morning!

  68. Debby Gibbs says:

I just looked up what day I was born on—Tuesday and full of grace. Well, maybe a little????
Have a wonderful day, and can’t wait until tomorrow—Potterday!

  69. Vickie from California says:

I posted earlier but don’t see my post, so I will try again because I so hope to win! If I would be so fortunate to be picked, I would put the book with my other Beatrix Potter books and figurines that I put out every Easter. Yes, the anticipation is great!

  70. marty Kunkis says:

Oh Dear! I thought that I could make the singular statement that not only am I “Thursday’s Child”, but tomorrow is my Birthday! Reading thorugh most of the posts, I seem to share my fate with at least Mary Lou, so cannot try to unduly influence Vanna for a Birthday gift. 🙁

I cannot believe the excitement and good feelings your “surprise ” has given us all.
I am an attorney in NYC and 12 hour days are the norm in our firm. Your blog and all the lives that you bring together is one of the highlights of starting my day. You always inspire me to try in the time that I have to bring civility and comfort in to my life and the lives of those around me. This lovely little book is tangible, but you are the “gift ” to everyone who enjoys your art and writing.
Tomorrow will be a win-win for everyone.

    • sbranch says:

You’re a doll Marty, I hope you’re staying cool in the city!

    • Lynn McMahon says:

      Happy Birthday!

      • marty Kunkis says:

Thank you, Lynn. That was such a nice thing to do. I hope that your day is filled with all good things -and maybe the grand prize of that sweet little book! Marty

    • judi says:

Happy Birthday Marty. May your day be FULL of fun surprises! Today is my son-in-law’s birthday too…..his name is JOE – another nice guy.

  71. Cindy Tuning says:

That really ups the ante that this is THE last book available! My wish is that the person who wins it is a long time, hard core Beatrix fan who is in desperate need of a pick me up because this would truely be a serious pick me up for someone. It’s a good thing your picker is random because lots of people would fit that bill. What a treasure!! As are YOU!!

  72. Maura Berry says:

Peter Rabbit was one of the first books I read to my older son as a toddler. He’s 8 now and can read them on his own. I am so happy that my love of books seems to have been passed on to him and I would love to share this special edition with him. Thanks so much!

  73. I was born on a Thursday so I hope that fact brings me luck, Susan…tee hee!

    You are the best!

  74. sherry says:

Susan, I don’t have anything really clever to write to get your attention to draw my name…and that random helper of yours can’t read anyway! But, it would make my heart sing if my name is announced as the winner of the Peter Rabbit book. My mom lived with a Peter Rabbit mural painted on one wall in her house for 20 years. We all received pillowcases with Peter and his friends painted on them. And, she still has hand towels with Peter Rabbit on them…please don’t use them!!!! I think it would just be fitting to tuck Peter into her bookshelf and watch her face light up when she discovers it.
Thanks for putting such pretties in my e-mail box ~ I love taking adventures with you.

    Sherry B.

  75. linda says:

I have never posted on a blog before so here goes… I ♥ Susan Branch!

  76. Judy says:

I have enjoyed your blog so much. Have children and grandchildren visiting from Japan and Germany. The heat is wicked in Maine right now and would enjoy a treat. Imagine, it’s so cold and chilly in Berlin, Germany, they are looking forward to this heat!!!

  79. Maureen Trostel says:

  80. Betty Burton says:

Thank you so much for taking us on your trip to England. I sent a link to several friends that have traveled in that area. One of my friends actually took that same “little boat” over. We all loved it!

  81. Susan Havey says:

    Dear Susan:

Okay, I’m a Friday’s child – loving and giving. So I must say I am so loving your blog, the awesome travelogue from England, and your sunny disposition which fills our days with happiness and warm fuzzies. And since I am supposed to be giving – I give many wishes of good luck to all your “Potter Day” hopefuls so that one lucky person will rejoice in the gift of love from another loving person.

    Susan in Spokane WA

  82. Betty Burton says:

PS I saw Jack’s little nose behind the screen door the other day.

  83. Kay says:

Still haven’t got out of the baggage claims. It’s still good to re-read the posts from across the pond. It was
such a lovely trip for all of us.

  84. Tamara C says:

    Such a bunny lover am I ……….!
    Delightful blog is this……….!
Hopeful am I………..perhaps to be THE lucky one.

Thank You for wonderful summer fun !
And a special thank you for the blog – it brings JOY.

  85. Bell says:

I love your blog! My husband and daughter and I went to England for her high school
Graduation! We just loved it. I am in the Jane Austin society in my home town. so we went to
Her Home and Got to see anything you talk a about in your blog. I think I was just like you
And bought everything I could get in my suit case. One of the things I loved about the
Trip was how it make the fairytales seem so real. I am a preschool teacher of twenty five
Years and seeing a real castle was so wonderful. I have read the Peter rabbit story hundreds of times and to see where mrs potter wrote the story would be so wonderful. we did not
Get to her home we choose to go to Charles Dickens home instead.
    Thanks so much for sharing!

  86. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!! Susan, I have been wanting to tell you my opinion on “snitching” 2 roses from Beatrix’s Garden….all Nature belongs to GOD including each and every one of our homes…..this Land is HIS Land…we are the stewards while on HIS Earth….that being said HE would not mind one little bit that on that particular day in that garden you wanted to take a little piece of HIS NATURE as a souvenir. Now, stop feeling like you did something wrong your heart was in the right place and it meant so much to you and will also for one lucky girlfriend. If my logic doesn’t help maybe this will, you also bought 2 Lavender Books and I’m sure other goodies so you more than paid for those two roses. I should of been a lawyer don’t you think?? Blessings

    Hi Susan,

My oldest daughter is moving out and spreading her wings. In her living room she has displayed the itty bitty collection of Beatrix Potter books her Daddy gave to her when she was born…21 years ago!!! And in true decorating fashion, she found some figurine bunnies from her Oma and set them around the books….so cute, seeing her decorate her first apartment…she gets it from me:):):)…..:) I thought you might find it sweet that she has kept her books all these years and still thinks they are the grandest:) Have a wonderful afternoon:) Erica:)

I like the version I found somewhere in time. Wednesday’s child if FREE of woe. I prefer that version because I’m a Wednesday’s child born on what used to be called Armistice Day (now Veteran’s Day) November 11. Call me Scorpio. Now tell me because I don’t get it ~ What’s with Carly Simon and ketsup???? I’m dying to know……

Excuse me for being new to this blogging, posting comments, etc.
My daughter, Molly, a journalism major, has introduced me and instructed me how to “post a comment” on a blog entry that I really like!
Well, I must say, Woah! to your blog, twitter, web site, etc. I have always been a fan of your art- on calendars and books. I am drawn to the homey-ness and the cheerfulness. So to learn that I could “follow” you on your journey across the ocean, was an unbelievable pleasant surprise! Thank you for sharing your trip with me! I felt like I was there!
